Privacy Policy
Effective September 22, 2026
This policy explains what information OLO ("we", "us") collects through the website at olobg.com and through the OLO Turn Tracker mobile app for Android and iOS, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. The website (olobg.com)
Waitlist form
If you join the waitlist, we ask for your name, email address, phone number and whether you would rather hear from us by email or text message. We store this on our own server and send ourselves an email notification so we know you signed up.
We use this information only to:
- Let you know when OLO launches or when our Kickstarter campaign goes live.
- Send occasional updates about the product.
We do not sell, rent or share waitlist information with anyone. You can ask to be removed at any time by emailing us (see Contact).
Cookies and analytics
The website is delivered through Cloudflare, which also provides our visit counts through Cloudflare Web Analytics. It does not use cookies, does not fingerprint your browser and does not follow you to other sites; it records things like the page you viewed, the site that sent you, your browser type and your country. Cloudflare's handling of this is covered by the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
The website does not use advertising trackers or third-party cookies. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests font files from Google's servers when the page loads. Google's handling of those requests is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
Server logs
Like almost every website, our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, time of request) for security and troubleshooting. The waitlist form also uses temporary rate-limit records, keyed by IP address, to block spam submissions. These are not used to identify you and are cleared on a rolling basis.
2. The OLO Turn Tracker app
The app exists to set up and control your OLO buttons. It does not require an account and it never asks for your email or any other contact details. It does ask for a player name to show at the table; you can type anything you like, or skip it.
Permissions and why we ask for them
| Permission | Why the app needs it |
|---|---|
| Bluetooth ("Nearby devices" on Android 12 and later) | To find, pair with and talk to your OLO hub and buttons. This is the core of the app. |
| Location (Android 9, 10 and 11 only) | Those Android versions let an app scan for Bluetooth devices only when it has Location permission and Location is switched on. OLO never reads, stores or sends your location. Android 12 and later, and iPhone, never ask for it. |
| Internet | To check whether new firmware is available for your OLO hardware and download it when you choose to update, and to connect to our game server when you play with phones only. |
| Vibration | To buzz your phone for turn reminders, if you turn that on. |
What the app stores on your device
- Game settings such as player names, player colors, timer durations, sound and vibration preferences and the theme you picked.
- Pairing keys for your OLO hardware, kept in the phone's secure storage so the app can reconnect without pairing again.
The app also keeps a history of your games (rounds and turn times) for each hub, so you can look back at past games.
All of this stays on your phone. It is not uploaded to us or to anyone else, and it is left out of phone backups and transfers to a new phone. The one exception is phone-only play, described below. Deleting the app deletes it (on iOS, pairing keys in the Keychain may survive a reinstall; you can re-pair at any time).
Network activity
The app makes only these internet connections:
- Firmware updates. A version check against a file we publish on GitHub, followed by a download of the firmware file if you choose to install an update. That request reveals your IP address to GitHub, as any download would, and is subject to the GitHub Privacy Statement. No game data, device identifiers or usage data are sent.
- Phone-only play. If you host or join a game with phones only (no OLO buttons), the app connects to our game server at rooms.olobg.com over an encrypted connection, delivered through Cloudflare. It sends the room code, a random ID the app made up for this phone (not tied to your phone's hardware or to you), the player name you chose, and the game itself: presses, turns and settings. The server keeps each room's game statistics (turn counts and times, stored against those random IDs, without names) so the room can show its history, and technical logs that include IP addresses, for security and to stop abuse.
- Usage stats, unless you turn them off. See below.
- The olobg.com link. Tapping it opens the website in your browser; the app itself sends nothing.
Apart from usage stats, playing with OLO buttons over Bluetooth sends nothing to us.
Usage stats
To learn how OLO gets used and what to improve, the app sends anonymous usage stats to our server at rooms.olobg.com over an encrypted connection. The app's first screen asks with a checkbox that starts checked, and you can change your mind at any time with Share usage stats (in the hub's Settings tab, or the chart icon on the app's home screen).
- What is sent: when the app is opened; games started and finished (game style, number of players, rounds and length); how often each app screen, feature and hub command is used (counts only, never what you typed); connection successes and failures; your OLO hardware's firmware versions, number of buttons, hardware revision and battery levels; firmware update results; app errors; and the app version, phone model and operating system version.
- How it is labeled: with a random install ID the app makes up. It is not your phone's hardware ID, it is not linked to any account, and turning stats off deletes it (turning them back on makes a new one). Your hub appears only as a one-way scrambled (hashed) label.
- What is never sent: player names, room codes, PINs, your location, contacts or anything else on your phone.
- We do not store your IP address with usage stats, and we do not sell or share them with anyone.
Not in the app
- No user accounts or sign-in.
- No advertising or ad networks.
- No third-party analytics or crash-reporting services. Our own usage stats go only to our server, and you can turn them off.
- No third-party SDKs that collect data.
3. Children
OLO is made for game night with friends and family, and the app is safe for anyone to use: it collects no contact details, a player name is only sent to us during phone-only play, and usage stats carry no names. The website waitlist is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has joined the waitlist, contact us and we will remove the entry.
4. How long we keep information
Waitlist entries are kept until OLO has launched and we have finished notifying the list, or until you ask us to delete yours, whichever comes first. Server logs and rate-limit records are kept only briefly for security purposes. Usage stats are kept for up to 13 months, then deleted automatically. Game statistics from phone-only rooms contain no names and are deleted automatically 90 days after the room closes; email us with the room code if you want them deleted sooner.
5. Your choices and rights
- Access or deletion. Email us and we will tell you what waitlist information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it.
- Unsubscribe. Every message we send includes a way to stop receiving them, or simply reply and ask.
- Usage stats. Uncheck the box on the app's first screen, or turn off Share usage stats at any time. Turning them off deletes anything not yet sent and the app's install ID. Because stats already sent carry no name or contact details, we cannot tell which ones came from you.
- App permissions. You can revoke Bluetooth (or, on Android 9 to 11, Location) permission in your phone's settings at any time. The app will not be able to connect to your OLO hardware without Bluetooth.
If you live in a place with specific privacy laws, such as the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or California, those laws may give you additional rights. You can exercise them by contacting us.
6. Security
Waitlist data is stored on a server we control, behind access controls and HTTPS. Pairing keys in the app are held in the operating system's secure storage, and the app never stores the hub's admin PIN. Phone-only games travel over an encrypted connection. No method of storage is perfectly secure, but we keep the amount of data we hold to a minimum so there is little to lose.
7. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the effective date at the top. Material changes will also be mentioned in our product updates.
